Elder Matthew L. Carpenter, President of the Africa Central Area of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, presented a check to representatives of the Ministry of Peace on March 1, 2023 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This donation, equivalent to about $17,000, will be used to support the Ministry’s National Volunteer Community Service Program.

At the handover ceremony Elder Carpenter said, “we are happy to present this donation to the Ministry of Peace to be used on behalf of youth volunteers for hands-on experience and work training. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes in the spiritual value of work experience for young people and supports this program for the benefit of Ethiopian youth.”

He also discussed the implementation of the BYU Pathway program in Ethiopia, which represents the Church’s efforts to make quality higher education affordable and accessible to people around the world.

The Ministry of Peace is an Ethiopian government ministry that works to prevent and resolve conflict and to support development among Ethiopia’s regions.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints follows the example set by Christ to minister to the needs of all people regardless of race, nationality, or religion. Humanitarian donations such as this are made possible by voluntary contributions of Church members.
