The Catholic Diocese of Masvingo gathered on 26 August 2023 at Gokomere Shrine to celebrate the Feast of the diocese’s patroness, Mary Queen of Peace.

The program which started with a talk from Fr. Andrew Foto, drew together Catholics from the entire diocese of Masvingo. With the theme titled ‘enlarge the space of your tent’ taken from Isaiah 54:2, Fr. Foto challenged all Catholics in the diocese to promote unity and an inclusive approach in their practice of Christianity.

Rev. Fr. Alex Rutsvara gave the second talk emphasizing on the importance of teaching catechism in the various structures of the Church. He said Catechism enriches the believers’ knowledge of scriptures that it is the foundation of our faith. He singled out lack of proper catechism as one of the reasons why some of the Catholics leave the church during difficult times.

After the talks all people completed the pilgrimage from Gokomere mission to the Shrine of Mary Queen of Peace. The journey from the mission to the Shrine was prayerful as the faithful from all over the Diocese were reciting the Rosary and praying for His Holiness Pope Francis, Bishops and all the priests, sisters and brothers.

The congregation then celebrated holy mass at the shrine led by Fr. Samson Mutsvanga who encouraged the faithful to exercise peace in the country especially after the election period, and to continue praying for the country and the Diocese
