To ensure the nation overcome its numerous challenges and benefit from involvement of God-fearing individuals in politics, the African Church has called for active participation of Christians in politics.

The Archbishop of Lagos Province, Most Rev. Julius Oludotun Ogunseye, who made the call at a press briefing to mark the second biannual Congress of Lagos Province of the African Church, said: “What the church stands for, when its comes to issue of politics has become a general concern that has put it in serious dilemma. We have in the past nursed the erroneous belief that politics is dirty and ungodly. But recent developments have revealed that we have been robbed by ignorance.”

He called on Christian technocrats, engineers, medical personnel, academicians and other professionals to join politics and make desired impacts.

Speaking on the theme, In Him We Have Our Redemption, the cleric said humanity was once guilty and convicted of sin through their first parents, Adam and Eve, and was condemned to punishment by experiencing hardship, affliction and death, but Christ’s atonement brought redemption and reconciliation with God.

Outlining a new direction for the church, Ogunseye said the church has plans to redesign existing educational framework to meet members’ current yearning.

He assured that the church would not relent in its effort to establish more schools in future to promote academic excellence, as well as engage in mechanised agriculture and other cash crops.
