Catholics from St. Teresa Parish in Hwange lead a procession from St. Patrick hospital where they prayed for the sick and donated groceries.

The priest in charge of St. Teresa parish, Fr. Pontiano Mulenga blessed the sick with the body of Christ at St Patrick’s hospital on solemnity of Corpus Christi on 11 June 2023.

Corpus Christi is a Latin word for solemnity of the most holy body and blood of Jesus Christ.

Homilist, Rev. Deacon Praise Muunga of St. Teresa Parish said, “the eucharist gives us the physical and spiritual healing. People who are sick must be given Eucharist in order for them to be healed from different ailments.” He advised that the body of Christ is twofold, that is the eucharist which is the source and summit of Christian life and the church. Deacon Muunga indicated that the Catholics are blessed as they receive the sacrament every Sunday.

Deacon Muunga explained that the eucharist protects people from evil spirits, gives grace, helps people to avoid mortal sins and helps to them to avoid and protect people from temptations. He said Satan attacks people on their last and delicate moments of life because that is when they lose hope.

During mass, St. Teresa parish led by Fr. Pontiano Mulenga, Fr. Bruno Zamberlan, Fr. Simbarashe Muza, Fr. Joackim Mzanywa and Deacon Praise Muunga made a Corpus Christi procession from the church to St. Patrick’s hospital for blessing of the community and the sick. They donated assorted groceries to help the sick and those under pre- and post-natal care.

Sr. Precious Chanda CPS, the St. Patrick’s Hospital Administrator, expressed gratitude for the blessing and donation of groceries made by St. Teresa parish.

“Thank you for bringing Jesus Christ to the hospital. Christ heals, consoles and unites in times of joy and sorrow, even in the last minute of life,” she said.
